Central Government hikes DA to 100%

As expected, central government yesterday raised dearness allowances (DA) by 10% to 100 percent from existing 90% which will effect from 1st January, 2014.Increase in dearness allowances will benefitiate its 50 lakh employees and 30 lakh pensioners.

Earlier we informed you that Union Cabinet might approve 10% hike DA on 28.02.2014, now it happened in reality as Government announced to increase hike in DA by 10 percent,the decision was taken by the Union Cabinet after the meeting held in New Delhi.

Last time Government increased DA hike by 10% effected from 1st July, 2013. After that, it is happened consecutive two in a row that Central Government  announced hike in DA by double digits. With this announcement present dearness allowances is equal to the basic pay. Now, the question is whether will 50% of the DA be merged with the basic pay or not. In after yesterdays meeting of Union Cabinet, nothing was announced about the merger of DA with basic pay, but the Cabinet approved the terms of reference of the 7th Central Pay Commission which may help them to take decision about the merger of DA with the basic pay. Different unions of central government employees have been demanding about the merger of dearness allowances with the basic pay.Now,after the recommendation of the Central Government lets see what the steps will be taken by the newly constituted 7th Central Pay Commission.
